54D-On Program Summary

Link to 54D-On Program

The 54D-On Program is a 9-week program, that consists of 6 workouts per week along with nutritional guidance for the types of food to eat during each of the four phases of the program. The workouts are 1 hour long, are streamed through an app, and  are scheduled for Mon-Saturday.  Sunday is a rest day. Program availability is limited. When you sign up, the 54D-On team puts you into a group cohort (Generation 4 over here!) and assigns a coach to keep the group motivated and answer questions. Below is my review of the program based on a couple of categories. Net net, this program requires absolute dedication and discipline. It is not for the faint of heart and is a tough process. That said, it is worth it! The results are pretty awesome and I would highly recommend it, especially if you are trying to get into top shape (e.g. post baby, pre-wedding, etc.) If you want to get a feel for what the workouts are like, Rodrigo Garduño, the founder of 54D posts free workouts videos on his instagram profile (@ro54d).

54D-On Review

Rating: 5/5

This is a really comprehensive program. Below are some of the reasons I gave it such a high rating:

  • At-home workout with minimal equipment- you only need a mat and a resistance band. This is an amazing option for quarantine!
  • Well designed, high quality workouts that can be streamed any-time in the day. These things are brutal and I guarantee you will be dripping sweat at the end of it! Heads up that some of the workouts do repeat (they still kicked my butt!)
  • Nutritional guidance that outlines:
    • Foods that you can and cannot eat
    • Macronutrient combination for each meal (e.g. 1 protein + 1 fat + 1 veggie)
    • Recommended portions for food types (e.g. 1/2 cup of brown rice)
  • Seamless mobile app that:
    • Connects with devices like the Apple watch and Chromecast
    • Includes great tools to track progress pictures and body measurements
  • Support group to help hold you accountable for the program
Duration: 54 days

This one is tough, it lasts 54 days. Getting through this program requires planning and determination. Make sure you are ready for the grind and that you have a good support system within your family and friends. The people in my cohort that did it and stuck with it got amazing results. I can promise you will feel amazing and super proud of yourself by the time you get to day 54!

Level of Effort: High

This is probably one of the hardest fitness regimens I have followed. The workouts require quite a bit of mental grit and it takes a lot of dedication to workout 6 days a week and stick to the nutritional guidance. Definitely worth it if you want the results, but it will not be an easy path.

Feels Like a Diet: Yes

During each phase you get a list of foods that you can and cannot eat along with instructions on the combination of macros that you need to follow.  The program recommends you eat 5 times a day (3 meals + 2 snacks). I’ll admit that there are quite a bit of foods that are restricted (e.g. alcohol, sugar, cheese, etc.)  making it challenging to be social and eat out. That said, the nutritional guidelines  yield impressive results. I’m also a bit of a nutrition nerd and found it interesting to see the effect that the different combination of foods had on my body. One thing to note is that the nutritional guidance is not customized to each individual but rather provided as a set of guidelines for the group.

Worth It: Yes

I will reiterate that this is not for the faint of heart. You have to commit to this and you have to be ready to put in the time and effort to achieve this goal. If you do, you will see some amazing results. You will transform your body and will pick up some great habits along on the way. I’d equate this program to something like deciding to do a marathon. It will take months of training, you will feel the pain along the way, but you will feel incredibly proud of yourself the moment you cross that finish line. You can do it, I believe in you!

Full disclosure, I write these blogs in my spare time. I do not have an editor and am the only one who reviews the content. As a result, it is likely I’ll have the occasional typo or grammar mistake. If you find anything, feel free to let me know.

Lastly, I’ll admit food photography is not my forte. If you make the recipe and have a better picture, please share and I will happily post it and give you photo cred!
